WHY SHOOT IN ECUADOR?

The country offers some of the most impressive natural production locations in South America. Filming in Ecuador is cost-effective and rewarding with the help of professional fixers

This South-American country offers filmmakers plenty of opportunities to feel inspired at scenic locations below the average costs.

Ecuador offers a variety of benefits and reasons why it should be your shoot location of choice.

Different Looks

Ecuador has easy-to-reach deserts, cities, mountains, rain forests, beaches, and of course the Galapagos Islands, a world heritage site of nature.

Being a country of approximately 280K Kms², the distances to go from one location to another are short, being able to film in the high mountains in the morning and end the day on the beach.

Weather

Due to Ecuador's location directly on the equator, the entire nation enjoys 12 hours of daylight every day of the year.

Ecuador has no seasons like in hemispheres, the climate has slight variations throughout the year.

In the high mountains, due to the altitude, the climate is cooler. On the coast and in the Amazon, the climate is tropical.

Currency

The US dollar is the official currency of Ecuador, which makes its economy move globally and there are no problems with changes and denominations.

Despite the fact that the currency is the dollar, filming in Ecuador is not expensive. The cost of living is relatively low in food and transportation and audiovisual production services remain priced below average, making it an ideal country for your projects.

Tax rebate

Ecuador has a tax incentive program for audiovisual productions which can provide significant savings for you. To take advantage of this program, you should inquire with the Ecuadorian Film Commission, which is responsible for administering the tax rebate program.

Tax incentives

The Sectoral Committee of the Film and Audiovisual Industry (COSICA), the body responsible for approving audiovisual investment projects with rights to benefit from a 37% rebate on investment costs in Ecuadorian territory and other incentives, was established under the auspices of the Ministry of Production in August 2023.

The greatest incentive that Ecuador offers to international audiovisual production is the Audiovisual Investment Certificate (Tax Credit), which consists of the return of 37% of the expenditure in Ecuadorian territory, in a negotiable instrument convertible into dollars on the stock market.

Additionally, audiovisual production in Ecuador enjoys other benefits that contribute to reducing production costs, making international investment more profitable:

  • Exemption from all tariffs or taxes on the import of goods required for audiovisual production, in all customs regimes.
  • Exemption from the Tax on the Exit of Foreign Currency (ISD) for the import of equipment and goods intended for local and foreign audiovisual production, promotion and dissemination in Ecuador; and for the payment of salaries, fees, remunerations or travel expenses to natural or legal persons residing abroad.
  • Exemption from Income Tax (IR) on payments abroad.
  • Exemption from Value Added Tax (15% VAT).
